MT WHALEBACK NEWMAN (IRON ORE) - BHP BILLITON

BHP Billiton’s Mt Whaleback iron ore mine is located several kilometers from the town of Newman in the heart of Western Australia’s Pilbara region. This was Otraco’s first operation and we have been providing continuous full Onsite Management at Newman since 1972. Many of Otraco’s breakthroughs in tire management have occurred on this site including, in the 1970s, the development of the first pressure and temperature tire monitoring system, tire fitment batching analysis and axle fitment bias adjustment, and the first relative performance based tire warranty system. Over the years Otraco has managed the changes from bias ply to radial haulage and loader tires, and the growth from 75T through 120T, 190T and 240T haul truck fleets (including the world’s largest fleet of Wabco 3200 three-axle ten-wheeler 220T trucks). Our goal has always been to attain the lowest possible tire related cost operation for our Client, and this has been achieved through management practices that maximize tire and rim life and mining equipment productivity and minimize equipment downtime related to tires. Otraco is exceptionally proud of the 10 years (LTI) Lost Time Injury free milestone that was achieved on site in 2004.

ARGYLE (DIAMOND) - RIO TINTO

Otraco has been providing full Onsite Management at Argyle Diamond Mines in the Kimberley region of Western Australia since commencement of mining operations in 1985. The Company was involved in tire workshop design and tire selection for Argyle’s first fleet of trucks, which consisted of 11 Cat 777s. Following a comprehensive test program, radial tires were introduced in 1986 resulting in a 40% increase in tire life and a 16% reduction in cost per hour. Today, Argyle is one of the world’s biggest open cut diamond operations producing 35% of the world’s diamond supply. Otraco is responsible for rubber tired equipment on site. The mining fleet comprises more than 30 haul trucks of 190T to 240T payload capacities and large front end loaders fitted with chains because of the extremely hard and abrasive nature of material in this mine. The combination of remoteness, hard rock environment and high pressure on cost reductions sees Argyle as one of Otraco’s most demanding sites.

TOM PRICE, PARABURDOO, CHANNAR, MARANDOO, BROCKMAN & YANDICOOGINA (IRON ORE) - HAMERSLEY IRON - RIO TINTO

Rio Tinto's wholly owned Hamersley Iron is one of the world's largest iron ore producers. From mines in the iron-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia it is a major supplier to the Pacific rim and European steel industries from Hamersley's Mount Tom Price, Channar, Paraburdoo, Marandoo, Brockman and Yandicoogina mines. Otraco commenced Onsite Management at Paraburdoo in October 1993 – commencing with management only and upgrading to a full management service including maintenance in November 1995. Since that time Otraco has been awarded responsibility for total tire management at all of Hamersley’s mine sites, including the Eastern Ranges ore body from April 2004. We manage a fleet that includes more than 50 haul trucks of 190 to 240T capacity and the world’s largest mechanical-drive front end loaders. Because of the satellite nature of many of its ore bodies, Hamersley Iron presents a unique management challenge.

PANNAWONICA (IRON ORE) - ROBE RIVER IRON - RIO TINTO

The Robe River mining operations are located near the Pilbara town of Pannawonica, 200 kilometres south west of the company’s processing and port facilities at Cape Lambert in North Western Australia. The current production base is Mesa J, where iron ore reserves provide the cornerstone of Robe’s pisolite ore output. Otraco commenced full Onsite Management in July 1996 and has provided Robe with ongoing specialised tire management and consulting services since that time. The mining fleet is composed of around 20 haul trucks of 190T capacity. With Robe River’s reputation as one of the world’s lowest cost iron ore operations, Otraco prides itself on delivering high quality services that assist in maintaining this standing.

KCGM KALGOORLIE CONSOLIDATED (GOLD) - BARRICK-NEWMONT

Otraco commenced full Onsite Management at the KCGM (Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines) Fimiston Super Pit operation on the Golden Mile in Western Australia in 1999, coinciding with the transfer of mining operations from an earthmoving contractor to owner-miner status. The Super pit is a joint Newmont-Barrick operation and one of the largest gold mines in the world. Whilst underfoot conditions at the Super Pit are some of the harshest experienced throughout Australia, strong tire management and education campaigns driven by Otraco have resulted in a 30% increase in tire life and a reduction of similar magnitude in tire operating costs. Otraco manages light vehicle and earthmover tires on site including a Cat 994 loader and a fleet of 30 plus Cat 793C haul trucks. Otraco also controlled the tire program for two Liebherr T272 ultra-class trucks tested on site. We are proud of what has been accomplished in terms of tire life and costs at KCGM and in achieving our first five years on site LTI (Lost Time Injury) free – reflecting Otraco’s commitment to a safe and efficient work environment.

CADIA (GOLD) - NEWCREST MINING

Newcrest’s Cadia mine, one of the three biggest gold mines in Australia, is located near Orange in New South Wales. Mining operations commenced in 1998 – at that time with a tire supplier responsible for site tire maintenance. In 2001 Newcrest awarded the contract for full Onsite Management to Otraco in an attempt to improve tire life on its fleet of Cat 793 haul trucks and to reduce mining cost. Since that time, haultruck tire life has increased by 45%, and tire change times had been slashed. The rubber tired mining fleet on site also includes large front end loaders – Cat 994 and Komatsu WA1200.

WEST ANGELAS (IRON ORE) - ROBE RIVER IRON - RIO TINTO

One of the newest sites to be managed by Otraco, the West Angelas mine represents an important development for Robe, adding Marra Mamba iron ore (a higher grade of ore) to Robe's product suite. West Angelas commenced production in 2002 at a rate of 7 million tonnes per annum, at which time Otraco provided management consulting. The mine has been operating at its total potential production capacity of approximately 20 million tonnes per annum from mid 2004. The current mining fleet includes around 20 haul trucks of 190T capacity. West Angelas together with Hamersley’s Yandicoogina is set to become one of the largest iron ore producing areas in the country. Otraco commenced a full Onsite Management service at the end of 2003 and sees these two sites as the biggest growth potential of its current Australian contracts.

TELFER (GOLD) - NEWCREST MINING

When the Telfer Gold Mine was reopened in March 2003 in the north of Western Australia, Newcrest Mining chose Otraco to take responsibility for the full Onsite Management of earthmover tires on its flagship operation – Otraco had been the tire manager at Telfer up to the time of the original mine closure and is also tire manager at Newcrest’s Cadia operation in New South Wales. Newcrest’s decision refected their desire to achieve world class levels of tire management, tire related cost minimization, and the highest level of workshop and operational safety and efficiency. The Newcrest-Otraco partnership at Telfer has seen the implementation of optimal tire selection for the fleet of Cat 793 haultrucks and auxiliary equipment, proper haulroad and mine design, and effective mine operator tire awareness training that has resulted in a smooth and efficient tire operation from day one – in what is a very difficult mining and haulage environment.

MURRIN MURRIN (NICKEL) - MINARA RESOURCES

Numerous satellite pits are excavated within Minara Resources’ Murrin Murrin Nickel operations in the Goldfields region of Western Australia, resulting in a diverse network of haulroads and haulage requirements. Otraco’s full Onsite Management commenced in 2003, and the close working relationship has resulted in the implementation of Otraco’s recommendations on haul road design and excavation practices and improved loading and running surfaces. The co-operation between Otraco and Minara on all mine planning issues, combined with a focussed operator tire education and awareness program, led to average tire life for earthmover fleet increasing by 70% within the first twelve months of Otraco starting on site.
